Hot Rods HR Connecting Rods The Hot Rods HR Connecting Rods are heavy-duty OE replacement components crafted from certified 8620 AISI steel for superior strength. They feature a crankpin made from hot-rolled ASTM 4115, case hardened to a level of 58-62Rc, and designed for high RPM longevity with the latest in caged needle roller bearing designs. The big end of the rod is uniquely designed with side scalloping and vent slots to reduce bearing race distortion at high RPM. The small ends are double drilled to enhance lubrication and cooling for the wrist pin bearing, which is crucial when the piston crown is near the wrist pin bearing. The rods are shot-peened to eliminate surface stress risers and smoothly blend together the forging’s radiuses. They are double honed to create an ultra-round bearing surface, ensuring reliability at high RPM. Most rod assemblies come complete with the rod, crank pin, crank pin bearing, top-end bearing, and silver-coated bronze phosphor thrust washers. These connecting rods are compatible with both Hot Rods and OE crankshafts. The kit includes a forged 8620 AISI steel connecting rod and crank pin, SAE recommended phosphor bronze thrust washers, and a high-quality, silver-coated crankpin bearing for improved sliding and reduced temperatures. The rod is manufactured with copper-coated surfaces to protect the rod beam from becoming brittle during the case-hardening process.
